The High Atlas is the biggest mountain range in North Africa. This area covers some of the most beautiful regions of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. There are a number of streams flowing with volumes of water downstream. Cross section of the channel of stream can be depicted as in fig-1 below; As the stream approaches leaves the hill areas and reaches the plain areas its width tend to increase owing to spread of the river. But at the same the depth also varies. The depth may become more or slightly less, but generally there is no drastic reduction in depth. In addition the average speed of the river also slows down in plain areas. Efficiency of a water channel is determined by the amount of water it carries along. The channel works as a conduit for water. Cross Sectional Shape of the channel keeps varying with position in the stream, and discharge. The channel becomes deep at places where the velocity of river is high and results in deeper penetration. In general both width and depth increase downstream with increase in discharge downstream. The channel will be termed as most efficient at places where it can carry the maximum amount of water.
